Once you have your website designed the next step is to generate traffic to that site. One would like to think that is an easy process, however it can be difficult. With so many business and people online finding sites is sometimes difficult. To generate traffic you should use your social networking skills, the same way you do in the real world. Social networks provide you with links and connections to those you otherwise would not be associated with.

For example; lets say your company is selling digital pictures. You have set up your website. You have some hits every day but would like more. Use your social networks to generate that traffic you seek. Place your business card (with web address) at local establishments, anywhere from you local supermarket, to your local gas station. Also use your newspaper and TV spots to place ad (if money permits of course). However, there are many free newspapers that you can run an ad in for very little cost.

Another simple way of using your social networks to generate traffic is placing your website and link in a signature block on your emails. This way any emails you send out will have your site attached. Free advertising, got to love that! Yes, I know we usually send emails to the same people but think of the days when you send messages to receive information on subjects. This is a way to get your name out there and generate that traffic.

Seek out and find free advertising sites that offer you a banner to place on their site. This type of social networking will provide you other leads that you may not have accessed to otherwise. These sites may charge a fee upon clicks from their site to yours but usually it is a minimal fee. There are many free advertising sites that allow you to place banners with no charge. Sometimes these are harder to find.

Another simple way to generate traffic via social networking is asking local business who have websites if you can advertise on their site and in return you provide them a service of some kind. This allows local business to assist you as well you providing them return service.

There are simple yet innovative ways of using social networks to obtain that traffic you want. Traffic means people and people generate sells. Use the people you know and promote, promote, promote.
